Newsflash!

For the last two weeks of his ShelterBoots walk, Dave has decided to revert to his original route. On Day 45 (Monday 22 June) he will divert from the Pennine Way at Middleton-in-Teasdale – and head east towards Rothbury, where the St Oswald’s Way will take him towards the Northumberland coast at Alnmouth. The coast path will then lead him home to Berwick and the Scottish border.

The website is being updated with weekly and daily maps for the new route.

In May 2026, Evesham Vale Rotary member Dave Foster will set out from Land’s End with a simple but demanding goal: to walk the length of England and raise £20,000 for ShelterBox disaster relief.

The cause is simple and urgent. When earthquakes, floods or conflict force people from their homes, ShelterBox provides emergency shelter and essential supplies. A tent, a blanket, a few basic tools — these can be the difference between despair and the first steps towards recovery.

Dave is a retired vicar who has supported ShelterBox for many years. In 2023, he completed a 425-mile walk across England and Wales, raising over £10,000. ShelterBoots ‘26 builds on that experience, but goes further — both in distance and ambition.

Over eight weeks, he will travel nearly 700 miles on foot, heading steadily north to the Scottish border. It’s a journey that will test endurance, resilience, and determination — all in support of families who have lost their homes to disaster.

Dave’s target of £20,000 could provide 50 family tents or 1,000 thermal blankets, ready for wherever the next disaster strikes.

He begins on 9 May and aims to finish on 4 July, one step at a time.

Because for families in crisis, shelter is where recovery begins.
